Ida Backer, MFA

…is an actor, singer and theater educator. She studied musical theater at Lahti University of Applied Music and Drama Institute (BFA, musical theater). Ida graduated from the Theatre Academy of the University of Arts in Helsinki (MFA) in the field of theater pedagogy 2014. Her studies have deepened her interest in group processes and individual growth as connected to community. As an actress, Ida Backer has performed in musicals, song evenings and concerts. She has been a member of the Kapsäkki Music Theatre cooperative since 2008. She has also worked in the field of social clowning, touring in Estonia, Poland and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ida teaches youth musical theater at the Vantaa Music School.

She has been studying (Inter)acting with the Inner Partner (IwIP) under Alexander Komlosi since 2011. This practice has given her much as a teacher, artist and person. She has been training as an IwIP teacher with Alexander since 2014. She has also co-taught workshops with him at the Theatre Academy and the Swedish Theatre.

Ida wants to continue to develop herself as an actor, singer and teacher. She is looking forward to cultivating the playfulness of life in both private life and work.

Ida has been a member of Culture Current since 2015.

Alexander Komlosi, MFA, Ph.D

…is a Czech-American authorial actor, director, researcher and teacher.  He has performed internationally including the Sandra Gering Gallery (NYC), the Hunter Mountain Culture Festival,  University of Boulder Colorado, Bates College (USA); Theatre on the Balustrade, Prague Quadrennial 2003,7,11 (CZ); Théâtre Toursky, Opera of Dijon (France); Wroclaw’s International Festival of One-Man Theatre (PL), Kiasma Theatre (FIN). His solo and group theatre projects (e.g., The Office of the Professional Human Being; Laska is Love, Love je Laska) have received grants in the USA, Czech Republic and Finland (Franklin Furnace Fund for Performance Art, Trust for Mutual Understanding, Czech Ministry and Prague City Grants, Arts Promotion Centre Finland, etc.).  He has collaborated with various artists and companies internationally including: William Pope.L, Maggie Siff, Martha Wilson and Franklin Furnace (U.S.A.); HoME theatre, Přemysl Rut, Vladimir Javorský (Czech Republic); Golem Theatre (France); Otso Huopaniemi, Hanna Raiskinmäki, Milja Sarkola (Finland). He taught regular and Erasmus students at the Department of Authorial Creativity and Pedagogy at DAMU (authorial performance) and courses at the Prague Summer Theatre School, of which he is Founding Director. He also worked as a scientific researcher at the Institute for the Research and Study of Authorial Acting. He has been studying (Inter)acting with the Inner Partner since 1998 and teaching it since 2001, having led IwIP workshops and courses at DAMU and internationally (Columbia University, Yale University, University of Colorado Boulder, Rose Bruford College, Central School of Speech and Drama, Theatre Academy in Helsinki as well as numerous conferences). He received his MFA and Ph.D. studying under Ivan Vyskočil at DAMU. He is currently teaching IwIP in Helsinki, Finland where he is also performing and writing. See www.alexanderkomlosi.name.

Howard Lotker, MFA

…is a founding member of HoME theater company, a Prague based arts organization exploring contemporary life through performance;  he has directed, produced or performed in all of its productions. HoME’s experimental and interactive performances have been seen in theaters, streets and apartments throughout Europe, in the U.S., Mexico, and beyond. In 2006 their performance DoMA / at HoME received the Příští vlná / Next Wave award for Performance / Project of the Year in Alternative Theatre. He works in Prague as an actor / performer, devisor, director, pedagogue, and translator. He has a BFA in Acting and Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a MFA in Authorial Acting from KATAP, DAMU (Prague), where he teaches acting, site-specific theater, devising theater, and Inter(acting) with the Inner Partner (IwIP). He is Head of Performance for DAMU’s new emphasis on Theatrical Creation in Non-traditional Spaces. He has given workshops in site-specific theater and IwIP at Yale, Columbia University (USA), UVA – UNAM (MX), and at the School of Visual Theater in Jerusalem (IL), among others. Milja Sarkola, MFA

…is a Finnish Swedish theatre director and playwright living in Helsinki. She worked as artistic director of the Helsinki-based Theatre Takomo in 2009-2012 together with Pauliina Feodoroff. Sarkola has directed dance pieces for Zodiak Center for New Dance and written and directed plays for Lilla Teatern and the City Theatre of Kajaani, Finland. Her latest piece at Theatre Takomo, Family Member, was The Performance of the Year 2011 (Thalia-prize). Sarkola has studied (Inter)acting with the Inner Partner at DAMU in 2004 and 2008 under the guidance of professor Ivan Vyskocil, Jan Nepomuk Piskac and Alexander Komlosi, etc. She has been teaching the discipline in Finland since 2007 at various locations including the Theatre Academy in Helsinki, Zodiak Center for New Dance, and recently at Teatteri Takomo together with Alexander Komlosi.
